Let’s support the future of adjudication.

I am unapologetically a big supporter of adjudication.  In a previous article entitled Adjudication is ‘simply the best’, I explained the reasons for arriving at such a position, namely:

However, I recognise that adjudication is a divisive process because of its interim ‘pay now, argue later’ consequences. Many parties who have had decisions against them do not see adjudication in a positive light.

Adjudication is in Helix DNA.

At Helix, we are unapologetically passionate about adjudication.  We want to see it used to bring about real solutions.  We want to see it bring parties to the table to negotiate.  We want to see it used commercially and transparently to achieve outcomes.  Sometimes good, sometimes bad.

I have also written other adjudication-based articles designed to be both informative but also deliberately though-provoking. One of these is:

The future of adjudication rests on the shoulders of adjudicators

Along with Janelle Kerrisk, I wrote:

Do lawyers make the best adjudicators?

My currently London based colleague Sarah Shirley wrote:

Insolvency and adjudication – has anyone got it right?

Another colleague, Jonathan Miliszewski, wrote an article in relation to a significant adjudication involving a council:

Adjudicator awards little payment to contractor in big claim against Council

Come along on 17 June 2021 and hear from experienced adjudicators on the future of adjudication.

The Helix commitment to opening adjudication up as an option for dispute resolution is evident in its sharing of the commercial risk with its clients.  We know that when you are chasing $500,000, you want some commercial comfort that you are not going to spend $700,000 in legal fees trying to recover the $500,000.  We take a pragmatic and commercial approach that allows you to make more informed decisions.

We are pleased to have brought together such a knowledgeable and enduring mix of adjudicators on this panel.  Each adjudicator has volunteered their valuable time to look towards the horizon with us and contemplate what the future of adjudication in Queensland and across Australia will look like.  It will come as a surprise to no one that this is a solution near and dear to my heart.  I believe in adjudication.  I want to see it achieve good outcomes.  I look forward to continuing to work with Helix Legal towards this purpose.

I hope that you can join us on 17 June 2021 as we look towards the future.  A future where good decisions are made by quality adjudicators striving for their best efforts in a pressure cooker of opinions and competing interests.
